A Note from Your Publisher

By Sandra Ozaki, Publisher Macaroni Kid North Little Rock, Arkansas May 9, 2021

Spring is a time for renewal, not just in nature but in ourselves. A year ago, we settled in for the long haul, not knowing when we would be able to venture forth and return to some semblance of our former lives. Now as Mother Nature reminds us, to everything there is a time. A time to grow, a time to rest, and a time to renew.

This past week saw a flurry of activity in our towns. We celebrated the 501 on May 1st with lots of socially distanced activities, sporting events, and community gatherings. For many, this is the first time they've traveled out of state to visit relatives and gather as families.

The list of venues that are open now is growing. Our towns are cautiously optimistic about planning festivals and fairs. The Little Rock Zoo has opened the carousel. And outdoor dining districts are all the rage as we shut down streets every weekend to give us more space to enjoy al fresco dining.

Masks are still the norm and for those of us with seasonal allergies, they provide an additional layer of protection from pollen and ragweed. Controversy over masks and vaccines abound but community events are piggybacking vaccination clinics whenever possible to allow everyone that wants to be vaccinated ample opportunity to do so.

My favorite place in town reopens to the public tomorrow and I could not be more excited! Laman Library has been preparing for months now to welcome its patrons back to the library and I cannot wait to see our librarians (from a respectful social distance, of course) and actually browse the shelves again.

Here's what you need to know before you go:

  • Facial coverings and safe social distancing are required and will help keep the library open to the public.
  • Both the Argenta and Main branches will open from 9 am - 6 pm, Monday - Friday.
  • Contact-free, curbside pick-up will continue to be offered.
  • Children and teens under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult responsible for their health safety.
  • Virtual programs continue on Facebook and YouTube.
  • The Summer Reading Program begins on June 1st with prizes, programs, and virtual events for all ages.
  • Passport service and meeting room rental will be offered as soon as possible.

Macaroni Kid North Little Rock is looking forward to creating some fun activities for you and your family this summer! We are visiting local businesses and creating new guides for you to enjoy as you get out and explore our towns. Let us know if there is anything you would like to know more about or share with our readers by emailing sandrao@macaronikid.com.

Until next week, mask up, keep a safe distance, and be well!

Aloha,

Sandra
