Keep Unwanted Electronics Out of Our Landfills

E-waste Accounts for the Majority of Toxic Waste Discarded by Individuals and Businesses

How many old cell phones, radios and printers do you have lurking in drawers and your garage? Are you planning to declutter but don't know what to do with your unwanted electronics? You're not alone.

Consumers discarded an estimated 6000 tons of e-waste in 2020 here in Arkansas. While e-waste dumped each year in Americaʼs landfills may only represent 2 percent of total waste, it accounts for 70 percent of the toxic waste that is discarded by individuals and businesses.

Electronics can contain elements such as lead, mercury, and cadmium that can be hazardous if disposed of in household trash and compacted at landfills.

But there are things we can do to reduce the number of products entering the waste stream. Before throwing away your unwanted electronics, consider selling or donating your used device.

The Regional Recycling District in Pulaski County will hold a free electronics recycling drop-off event on Tuesday, March 29, and Wednesday, March 30, from 7 am to 2 pm, at the Simmons Bank Arena parking lot on E. Washington Avenue in North Little Rock.

Pulaski County residents and businesses can bring old, broken, or obsolete electronic items from computers and printers to televisions, copiers, cell phones, and fax machines. Learn more and see the list of acceptable items here and let's keep Arkansas safe for future generations.
